How to get villagers to offer discounts?

In my main hamlet my primary source of gems are farmers. (All my villagers are free-roaming.) I utilize the gems mainly to merchandise with librarians for enchantments.
The farmers really like me and offer me discounts on a regular ground. The librarians never offer me discounts. I think I pay 38 gems for a book of mending.
In the village I am currently inhabiting, only 1 farmer has ever offered me a discount on 1 item. Librarians are charging me much also much. One charges 45 gems for Unbreaking Iii, another 31 gems for Luck of the Bounding main II.
The villagers are well-fed and protected, so what can I do to make them give me a pause when trading?

You lot could try defeating a multi-moving ridge Pillager Raid and getting the "Hero of the Village" condition upshot, which reduces many prices to minimum and causes villagers to toss you free gift items from their roster of stuff for sale. Merely I too accept never seen a librarian reduce price of a book. I remember prices for things like enchanted diamond tools and armor reduce, merely not enchanted books.

Thanks. Unfortunately, my heroism is a problem hither. I protect my villages from raids with milk rather than with a sword. I suppose I could give it a try with much preparation then that I could defend the town from a safe vantage point. I haven't seen a single illager patrol about this village yet though and judging from my warcraft both the villagers and I would probably be slaughtered. It might serve them right
Only the other mean solar day I watched a YouTube video in which a newly created librarian in a newly discovered and unsecured village offered a book of mending for 19 gems right from the start. I've never ever been charged and so piffling.

I've got a guy who sells mending books for viii emeralds, but he'southward a leftover 1.13 villager from the trading mall I built on our Realms server before the one.14 update changed villager mechanics. I oasis't nevertheless been able to actually explore the new village mechanics, been likewise decorated trying to get started on a new Spawn Circuitous industrial zone to replace the autofarm arrangement to provide a source of tradeable goods to become emeralds, but starting to get close to beingness able to exercise something about them. I doubt I'll get another 8 emerald Mending seller any fourth dimension soon, but hopefully I can get better than 19.

There'southward another method that works wonderously. If done enough times it can lower the cost of even the almost expensive item down to 1 emerald.
...It'southward somewhat barbarous though...
You have to allow your villagers be turned into zombies and then cure them to get discounts.
Here's my survival world'south trading hall.
This is Bub
He lives in a corridor behind my villager stands.
Every now and so I lower a villager for him to munch on.
I am always prepared to cure them however, and In return they give me crawly discounts!
All you lot really need is a way to reliably turn your villagers into zombies (Simply do this in Hard difficulty!) simply I'd suggest using LogicalGeekBoy'south trading hall design Here's his video-guide in case you're interested:
